TGI Almost the Weekend

I am so glad that it is Friday afternoon and the weekend is just around the corner. It has been a rough one, the press release went out, the analyst call happened, I forgot my computer . . . Calgon take me away! Actually, The Spa at Norwich Inn take me away. That is where I will be on Sunday for some much neaded R&R. Just going to the website relaxes me, nevermind being there.

One of those days!

Today has been one of those days. You know, one of those days you should have just not gotten out of bed. When I walked into work, after taking an hour to get there instead of 25 minutes, I realized I forgot my work computer. Thankfully it was not Monday morning or I would have just gone home and hidden under the covers for the week!
Sourec: My 2-year-old cousin Ben at the graduation party. He had apparently had one of those days too!

Update

I am pleased to provide the actual pictures from the Anthro website for the table and chairs that I love that I posted the other day. Much easier to see them now. I will be stalking these to see if they go on sale because they are rather $$$ or try to find something that is similar that if nothing else I can spray paint similar colors. They are just so pretty!!!

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

How I wish I was still in grammer school right now when it was exciting to have a snow day and get to sled down the side of my house with my friends (for approximately 5 minutes per my mom even though I swear we'd be outside forever), drink hot chocolate, and then play with my barbies all afternoon. This driving to work on unplowed roads is way overrated.

Warm weather, where are you?

A little while ago, we were discussing the impending snow storm for the commute tomorrow morning (5-8 inches, blah!). It got me thinking about how I wish it was warmer weather, even though I do enjoy the winter, I just hate driving to work in it. Anyway, that got me thinking of warm weather jewelry, and I remembered some necklaces I saw on the Ross Simons website when I was hunting out a graduation present for Kristina (I went with sunglasses instead). This is one that I had remembered that would be so much fun for when it gets warm out:
However, this is probably much more appropriate for our extra-snowy winter in CT:

Places I've Been

Every year I get excited when the NY Times prints, in its travel section, the places to visit that year. I read, hoping that I have hit at least a couple spots on the list. This year, there were 44 and I have been to the following:

1. Washington, D.C.
2. Chicago, IL
3. Dallas, TX
4. Florida Keys
5. Rome, Italy
6. Castles in Britain

For the full list, visit:

The one that really stumped me though is a farm in PA. I have no idea why that is on the list of the 44 places to go in 2009.

Shout out -

First, I have to say good luck to Kristina today. It is her first day at her new job. We are all so proud of her and I can't wait to post pictures from her party Saturday night.

Second, I have to say hello to Anne Marie who I am so glad is reading this. Since I am trying my hardest not to spend money on my own condo right now, any time you want me to spend your money on your new place, let me know!!!

I heart . . .

Yesterday morning. before I came down with the stomach bug going around, Gavin and I took a trip to my favorite store, Anthro. And for the record, we also visited W.S. for him. As usual, I didn't know where to look first once I walked in. Everything is just so beautiful. The thing that most caught my eye though, this lovely table and chair set that would look darling in a country garden (or on my deck facing Bob's Discount Furniture). I apologize for the terrible photo, but that is all my blackberry takes and I couldn't find the set online. You get the idea though.

My Bathroom . . .

For some reason, my latest condo obsession is lighting fixtures. I am not happy with any in my condo except my lovely chandelier in my bedroom and my Christmas present entryway fixture still to be put up.

This morning, while brushing my teeth (I am impressed with myself that I even noticed anything around me) I realized, I am not a huge fan of the ceiling fixture in my bathroom. I have an especially ornate shower curtain (see below, I adore it) and my light is just standard blah.

I have found two fixtures, one at Target (for $89) and one on Ballard (for $129). As I am on shopping hiatus until the end of February, I will just have to dream.

I wonder if this chandelier will look like it only cost $89 if I saw it in person. Hmmm . . .

The slightly more expensive chandelier from Ballard:

How fabulous is this bureau? I can picture it perfectly in my bedroom. And while the black and white is so striking, why not navy and white to go with my conforter? I think I could do something like this. I just need to find the bureau.

My Home

Here is where it all began – my home! I know it is not much, but it is mine and for the most part I did it on my own (with a lot of help from a very calm cousin who is an attorney and his awesome para-legal).

Per Zillow, I purchased the condo on June 4, 2008. And what a process it was! In some ways I feel like I have owned my little space for years and at other times I feel like I have lived here only a few short weeks (and if you looked around right now, it looks like I just moved in it is such a mess).

It is amazing what I have done in just 6 months (especially since I have lost 3 of them to being crazy at work) but there is still so much more to do. On my list:

  1. A lighting fixture for the living room (how can I have brass and yellow when my living room is light and airy with silver and white accents on my cool blue walls?)
While I am changing my lighting fixture in the living room, I might as well change the kitchen one too. The current one is sad and boring and from the way it looked when I bought the condo, it is also a ladybug catcher. A beautiful chandelier would be so lovely
Convincing Gavin that it is an awesome idea to repaint my bedroom a wonderful shade of kelly green to go with my navy and white comforter. Don’t get me wrong, I love the calming effect that my grey walls have, and it is such a pretty grey, but the kelly would just be such a wonderful and preppy pop to my otherwise subdued color scheme. Maybe I will just get a green chest or something

  2. My entryway needs some work. I have a great lighting fixture that just needs to go up along with some light cream paint on the walls. If my entryway wasn’t so low and dark, I would love to paint it an almost navy blue, but it is dark, and the ceilings are low, so I will go with off white. I also need a console table to go below my amazing paris picture that Lindsay gave me

  3. My spare room – in general. It is a disaster. I have an unassembled mass of daybed in the middle of the room with garbage strewn about. If I ever have a weekend off, that is what I am attacking. And while it is already a sage green, if I don’t paint my bedroom Kelly or my entryway almost navy, I would love to paint my spare room one of those colors. It’s just a little unexpected.

  4. The downstairs bathroom needs something done to it, anything done to it. It is an absolutely blank canvas.

  5. The upstairs bathroom needs new floors. I don’t know why the previous owner would ever have picked linoleum that always looks like it is dirty even after I’ve spent ½ hour on my knees scrubbing, but they did. I would love a black and white tile, and while I’m at it, I’d love white subway tiles along the walls. That is most likely not happening though. A girl can dream!

  6. Since the pantry space is lacking in my kitchen, I’d love a white jelly cabinet and since I have enough white paint leftover from my other projects to paint my entire condo complex, I can get one in any color

Wow, my list is daunting and this is what I came up with in just a few minutes.
